We understand that many scholars have a cell phone and that it is necessary so they can communicate with parents and families. We also realize that the use of cell phones in school is a major distraction to learning. To ensure effective communication and the safety of our school community, the following cell phone policy is in effect for school year 2024-2025.
School Policy
John Early scholars may bring their cell phones to school, but the phone must be off and remain in the locker. Scholars may not have or use cell phones during breakfast, lunch, recess, class, or any other activities during school hours.
If there is an emergency and you need to contact your child, please call the school.
Scholars who do not follow this policy will receive the following consequences:
1st incident: Teacher warning and documentation.
2nd incident: Scholar gives teacher or staff member their phone and receives it back at the end of the day. Parents/Guardians are notified.
3rd incident: Scholar gives teacher or staff member their phone and the parents/guardians must pick it up at the school.
4th incident: Parents/Guardians must meet with a school administrator and develop an agreement between the scholar, parents/guardians, and administrator on future consequences for not following the cell phone policy.
*If a scholar refuses to give their phone to a staff member, further consequences will be given.
